These assessments are aimed at municipal, commercial as well as privately owned entities who have an interest in maintaining their plant and equipment in good health for the continuation of electricity supply. The main focus of the assessment is to ensure that the electrical infrastructure complies with all the relevant standards, to identify hazards that will eventually cause harm to equipment, employees, third parties as well as the environment. The objective is to reduce the risk of any of the above-mentioned claims from taking place, specifically costly liability claims due to down time or injury.
Assessments should be conducted according to section 43 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act no 85 of 1993, Electrical Machinery Regulation and various other regulations (SANS). From an insurance perspective, all conditions in the insurance policy wording needs to be adhered to and will be assessed to ensure and maintain insurability.
